Col. Charles Young was a remarkable African-American U.S. Army officer who served with distinction for 33 years in an era of blatant racism and segregation in the armed forces.

An Officer in a Buffalo Soldier Regiment, he served with both the 9th and 10th U.S. Cavalry.

He was the third African American to graduate from West Point.
