Native American Women are again taking their rightful place in society.

Native American women, before the arrive of the Europeans were an intricate and important part of Native tribes. Equal to men in most every respect, they were the glue that held us together.

Finally they are being highlighted again as leaders and teachers in all professions.

The women highlighted in this article are only a small part of the number that are making their mark today.

For centuries Native American women were held in high esteem. With the arrival of Europeans this changed. Today it is changing back to the ''old ways''. A way that is far superior to what they have endured for a very long time.

That's great, Kav! Women deserve the same respect as their male counterparts. It's nice to see that happening.

Good article gete niijii.

Native women do need to receive the respect and recognition they have earned and deserve. That applies to all women, as well.

Tales passed down in my family talk not only of warfare between Native Americans and the Settlers, but also the importance of women in the tribes. The women of the Native American peoples were known to be the cultural backbone, the true guardians of the tribal heritage.

It's wonderful to see Native American women once again taking their place as leaders. It's also wonderful to see it being highlighted and reported in a forum like Ms. Magazine.

Hey Kavika, hope you are doing well. Good article highlighting the contributions of Native women. Sadly this not taught in schools outside of Sacagawea and Pocahontas. Native women were, and are, much more than that what is taught through the American (European) perspective.

Thank you for the article niijii! Respect is what has been missing for Native Women, it is time and past time that should be realized. We have all been *Warriors* of Women's culture for centuries!
