On this day when love should be in the air. Canadian Native women and others will march again to protest the lack of follow through by the Canadian authorities on the hundreds of missing and murdered Native women.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Vancouver Police Department have apologized for their lack of concern in these cases.

One case in Vancouver really brought home the lack of effort by the authorities.

Many of the persecuted, those without a voice, and those that have suffered injustice are just forgotten. Conscientious people like yourself keep dreams alive for the lost and those of us that wish to believe that as a species we have hope.

Thanks for stopping by T1..''Many of the persecuted, those without a voice, and those that have suffered injustice are just forgotten''...That is true T1..Hopefully the people marching in Canada are also the same ones that put pressure on the RCMT and Vancouver police. There work and dedication is to be honored along with those that have gone missing and those murdered.

I've forwarded this article to the Domestic Violence Program on the reservation I'm at to think about adopting this as a project. One out of Two native women in the US will be assaulted sometime in their life not to mention murdered which is higher than any other ethnic group.

Yet another Canadian story I was unaware of. These people are heroes. The police should be ashamed of themselves and maybe these marches will make them take a harder look at the injustice of these crimes.

Thank you for visiting Grisham. Yes, they are heros and their protests are what finally got the RCMP and Vancouver Police off their azzes and to start doing something.

I, too, was unaware of the magnitude of the problem in Canada, though I do hear that Native women in Alaska go missing or are murdered much of the time. I will say a prayer for them and their families. I will also say a prayer that the police start taking these crimes more seriously and investigate them with the same vigor and respect that they would women of another race.

Thanks for stopping by Holly. The stats on violence against Native women in both Canada and the U.S. are the highest of any racial group. It is so very sad when because of the heritage they can't get the same help that other women get.

All life is sacred and for this type of crime to be brushed aside is an abomination. Thank you, Kavika for keeping us updated on these stories. The more educated we become the more material and information we have to loudly speak out against these crimes. Our planet truly needs to become more compassionate for our lost sisters. My heart breaks for these women and their families. Such an injustice should never occur.

Kavika, I am glad you are on the newsvine. We need more real news that is not always focused on the 2012 election and white people.

Part of the economic equation no one addresses is that when funds are given like to state police departments, no one mentions that some of the non-white populations will be underserved. That is what scares white people. If minorities are given equal status, then things like police protection may not be adequate for whites.

Thanks for comming by Susan. I'm pretty tired of the nonsense going on with the politicians.

The old ''get over it'' you hear from some is disgusting. Let see them ''get over it''..

Native Americans have too long been quietly waiting for justice, especially the women. Being quiet does not work. It is past time to beat the drums loudly and without interruption until this is corrected. They do not have to love us or even like us but they do have to acknowledge our right to justice.

How can a nation which claims to civilized and industrialized treat citizens this way. I do not know if Canada recognizes hate crimes, but the way the First People are served by the law enforcement branch of government seems to have the trappings of a hate crime.

Members of an ethnic group receive a lower level of service than members of other groups.

Good article, gete niijii. Migwetch.

That's is beyond belief, 720 known women, now many more are there.

The halo over the RCMP is not longer there. I'm so disgusted that this was allowed to go on for 20 years that I can't speak.

Thanks for visiting Pat.

Hello my dear friend Kavika, I am so far behind on keeping up with your excellent articles. I'm very sorry but I haven't been doing much of anything, on NV or elsewhere. This is an outrageous action toward Native Women! If I could have joined the march I would have. Injustice needs to be brought forth in any such circumstances! :-(
