What do they want to ''Take our Country back too''...

Tue Feb 14, 2012 9:23 PM EST

To set the record straight I'm not a Liberal nor am I a Conservative.

In watching the political scene for the past couple of years I have become completely disgusted with both dems and repubs.

The first thing that really gets to me is the motto ''Take our Country Back''...Back to what I ask. Slavery, Jim Crow, Genocide against American Indians, racism, lynching, breaking treaties, lying, is that what we want our country to go back to. How about putting Japanese Americans in relocation camp's...Is this what we want for our county!!!!

Some groups talk about the Constitution, yet few of them have any idea of what our constitution really is, nor do they know what the ''Declaration of Independence" really says. IMO they are blowing a hell of a lot of hot air. They have less knowledge of our real history in regard to American Indians then I do about brain surgery.  Their knowledge is limited at best.

The groups that want the government to basically control every part of our lives, overwhelming social programs and unlimited government power, they to need to think it out. Tax the rich is the motto...If we taxed the rich at 100% we would not come close to putting a dent in our debt.

What I'm saying here is that until we come to the point were there is diologue between the political parties and between the average citizen we are headed on a path that we don't want to travel.

Today, I believe that we stand at a crossroads in our country. No one is willing to talk to someone that holds a differing opinion then they do.  If your a liberal nothing that a conservation say's is accurate, or correct. The same applies to the liberals....What are the odds against a person/party being wrong 100% of the time? Do you see my point people. Until we really understand that politicans are in the game for themselves we, ''The People'' are screwed. Until we can talk to one another, disagree with each other, yet can still come to middle ground the politicians win.

These are my opnions, they are neither right or wrong, they are my opinions.

If your going to post on this, please do follow the party line. Be a free thinker, actually let your brain work and make a decision without the input of the politicians, media, friends, neighbors or ''Talking Heads''...

This is your country, not the politicians, not the corporations, not the unions, not the special interest groups. It's yours, think about that folks. This is your county. Yours, no one else's.

CoH applies. Off topic, derailing, personal attacks will be deleted without warning.

I do see your point Kavika. I have always stated on NV that I don't like ANY politician. Nor, do I see anyone up and coming in the near future. I don't usually post on political sites but, the few that I have.. I make the same comment. The politician's and the news media's goal is to make their money through the "divide and conquer" technique upon the American people and it has worked forever. AND, unfortunately, still working. :(

Thanks for visiting Mrs D. I rarely post on political and have never written a political article. It's just reached a point for me that I see this country coming apart at the seams, and no one is willing to really discuss and solve the problems that we face.

Kavika... The problem in even getting to the discussion part is agreeing on what the facts are.

In engineering we have a saying if you don't measure it, you don't know S#!t. Each side wants to use it's measurements, and metrics which prove it's point. If we could just agree on the data and facts to be used to make a decision, we would be 90% of the way to resolving our problems.

And none of the above can take place until we have the temptation of easy money..bribe money out and away from our elected officials. For today we have professional politicians, not the elected representatives of the people as outlined in the constitution. That money gives rise to distortion of fact and data for personal gain of those offering the bribes.

Aloha Kavika.

A fine article, statement and plea. I agree in its entirety.

I have watched this article since yesterday and not commented because we Kona coffee farmers are in a legislative battle for our lives right now. As well we battle a physical insect threat to our livelihoods that has no certain solution.

We are not only engaged with an insect so small that it is difficult to see with the naked eye. On the other side we are engaged with the processors and blenders who own the legislature and operate behind closed doors and in the dark. They refuse to engage in an honest exchange of ideas and work for the good of all involved. They do not fear the media because in this small area they can control and manipulate the media. Any media they cannot are not large enough to cause them much trouble. I believe and practice the principals with hope and dreams but at the same time I find we must be ruthless and engage the opposition with as much ruthlessness as they show us. Anytime we attempt to engage them honestly they only offer deception and the back of their hand.

I have often said, here, we have the best third world government that money can buy.

It is true that there are more of us than them but they have the money and the politicians take it.

Arriving at a consensus on issues that affect us all, and implementing a plan that helps us all out would be a refreshing change.

A house divided against itself cannot stand.

A country perpetually at war will collapse under its own burden weight.

A tax code where everyone, people and firms alike pay their fair share would be novel.

Laws and tax codes which encourage job growth, exports, balance of trade, secure retirements, and universal affordable comprehensive health care is in everyones interest.

Insuring that after a life time of hard smart work every citizen can afford to retire in dignity, without being a brudren to the children would be an incentive to all citizens.

The American dream of owning your own home needs to be revived. The economy cannot rebound until after the housing crisis subsides.

None of this will happen by petty partisan bickering and jockeying for position.

I don't know what the answer is. The Occupy Movement is being called "an out-of-control thugfest." It began as a good idea, but now...all I hear are negative comments about it. I'm getting too old to be dragged off to jail(never been there and trying never to go there) and it seems that peaceful demonstrations aren't working. Violence is not the answer. Voting is not the answer, but I vote anyway.

It has come to a point in America, that average people have no voice in OUR government. Corporations with their endless supply of money have taken over. The guy next door can't run for public office because chances are he has not enough money. We're told that if we want change, to vote differently, write to our congressional leaders. Well...when we can't enclose a check for $200,000 or more, who is going to listen to us? Only if I show up with a brief case filled with money, will I get what I want.

Again, I don't know what the answer is. I don't think there is one, things have gone too far.

Great article, Kav! If we want to move from where we are now - to improve the state of our nation, then we need to put aside the issue of right and wrong, and focus on working together.

As I said in another article, we are like a push-me-pull-me llama, fighting to go in two different directions. We're getting nowhere. And as Mrs. D said, I think there are many in our government who are quite pleased with that.

In the sense of this article about taking the country back I would like to see it go clear back to when humans lived in harmony with the environment. That isn't likely to happen anytime soon, so in the sense of the people taking back control of the country, It can only happen by our votes counting or by outright revolution. I really hope our votes count. The only way forward is for the people to take back control of the government, if they ever had it in the first place. If not, it is time now.

Sure we could folks - we could go back to when people and nature were in harmony - hmmmm - let's see - hmmmmm - isn't 100BC a little far back?

"Ideally", just getting our government body to be a government body "of the people, by the people, for the people" would be the greatest way in the world to step back "the way it was". Someone above was absolutely correct - until we can get corporations to quit buying our politicians, we will always have a corrupt government. I perceive we are entering a new epoch or paradigm of human experience and existence with our current level of technologies and communication. We can talk and share ideas with other people and observe events of all types on 98% of the Planet in real time, directly. We can take pictures, text and share videos from our smart phones that are uncensored and based on reality. We are developing a Global Human Consciousness (GHC). We no longer need “news”, “opinions” or experiences to be transferred through controlled systems that delay, distort, spin or omit important information for the purpose of control or manipulation. The world is getting smaller, more transparent and becoming more connected.

Those at the helm of the current centralized control systems that have been used to consolidate wealth and power for the few at the expense of the many know this. The systems to control and manipulate the human masses for as long as history has been recorded are starting to break down, be exposed and will soon come to pass. This transition will not be easy because those that now have unfair advantages over others will not want to give them up.

It has been my life experience that as human beings, we all have more in common than not. We each need good food and water, a safe warm/dry place to sleep at night, functional clothing and a sense of worth and belonging… we all seek happiness and hope to avoid suffering. We all expect to be treated fairly, and enjoy equal rights and justice when wronged.

Rather than write a complete essay, I will leave you with this vision as a foundation to expand upon… and suggest that we follow only those that lead by example, remember that actions speak louder than words, and remember that in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.

''those that now have unfair advantage over other will not want to give it up.'' You are correct RW, that is why we as ''The People'' need to keep pushing until that wall crumbles.

I just went down the line clicking and voting for comments like Mrs. D's and Enoch's. What more is there to say?

The environment and our natural resources has me more concerned than just about anything, and that encompasses a lot of areas such as pollution by corporations and municipalities, and the failure of politicians and advocacy groups to realize that natural resources are limited and finite.

More than anything else, I am terrified of the ever increasing hunger for oil and gas at the expense of fertile earth and drinkable water.

Motivating people to use this power is the trick. Many sit and write opions, many ignore, and many just complain. As citizens we have the power if we use it. Unfortunately (as seen by our voting turn-outs) most do not get involved by attending school board meetings, investigating what our law makers are up to, showing up to vote, volunteering to help in our communities, or challenging injustices. Articles like yours and many others are a great thing if they just motivate one person to act. If an article, a word of encouragement, or just asking a friend can help give someone the courage to act or participate then you have made a difference.

    Thanks for visiting T1.

Our voter turnout in the last local elections was 28 %...That is sad, yet many that didn't vote complain yet do nothing to change the status quo..We have early voting, vote my mail as well.

I'm hopeful that this article will get through to at least one person.

Thanks for the encouragement. At times I get so disgusted with our politicians that I just don't want to fight it anymore. Then I step back and say Whoaaa these people are making decisions on MY life.

Our family fought our local Community Mental Health for our adopted son. They denied his true disabilities for years. We were forced into bankruptcy during the fight. Sometimes you just have to do the right thing no matter the cost. He is now home with us, receiving the help that he should have had for years, and we are thankful. Taking action is not always easy however if you do not, you will never change anything. If you ever have an hour and wish to read the stories you may find them posted. We would not expect anyone to go to the lengths we had for this cause although we feel we can ask for people to at least vote to change injustices. We all have to fight in our own way. It is important though to at least paritipate in the fight when injustices can be changed or averted. Do not discouraged. I for one have been affected by your words and I am sure I am not the only one.

T1, I'm sorry to hear that you had to battle for your son. Thankfully you won, and now your son is getting the help that he needs.

As your probably aware I have fought for American Indians all my life, and will continue to do so. I also attempt to fight every injustice that I see no matter the race or religion of the person or persons affected.

Thank you for your kind words T1..They are appriciated.

Whichever party is out of power uses the "take our country back" line, and in general it means to take the reins of power back from the party (and philsophy) that currently is in charge.

After the Tea Party adopted the phrase "Take my country back" I discarded it and chose instead,"Take my country forward". I see it as a more positive image.

They would probably like to go back to the time when the Native Americans, African Americans, Irish, and others were not recognized.. just fat cigar smoking, white lightning drinking, fat arses were in charge ..

As I mentioned the Irish had a tough go of it also.. If not for the Irish & Chinese much of the track laid in this country originally was because of them working in camps for slave wages..

Thomas Jefferson: Answers to de Meusnier Questions, 1786.

I really enjoyed this article! With the technology and communications available to citizens, it is much easier to obtain information, and many of the politicians have been "caught with their pants down". They will try to limit and control our "human individual person-hood" freedom of speech before they take away "corporate person-hood". We can't go back, but we can change what is yet to be. We need to unite, as a people. More honor and influence needs to be given to "exceptional thinking"; exceptionally demonstrated loyalty to the country and the best interest of the people; exceptional honesty and realistic views of the common person. We have to publicly denounce the corruption in campaign, finance, and legislation; loudly and often. Our elected officials need to be held more accountable to the people who elected them for their actions. Be it local, state, or federal; the people we vote for are the people speaking on our behalf. We need to find better people.

According to Native News Network, when Miranda's teacher at Sacred Heart heard her speaking her native language, she slammed her hand on the desk, angry that Miranda might have said something "bad." As punishment, Miranda was benched during her team's next basketball game.

Miranda was upset and confused by the reaction, as was her mother, who says the Menominee language is part of their lives and that Miranda's grandmother is a linguistics and cultural specialist for their tribe. And the school's apology, she said, doesn't properly address this injustice.

Given our nation's shameful history of depriving Native Americans of their culture, among other things, Sacred Heart should back its apology with action.

Tell them to add American Indian languages and culture to their curriculum and stop violating rights of American Indian students.

          Hoka Hey!

Although I don't see it that way, I have been told that I have a negative attitude. If what I write here Is something some disagree with, they can chalk it up to that. I would prefer to be wrong anyway.

The way things are structured and with money and power being one and the same, the people with the money and power will will out over those of us that do not have that power.. No matter how many have good ideas or solutions, they will only be listened to when they serve the purpose of the people in power.

The situation has evolved too far for it to be stopped or turned to another course with out a total collapse happening first. We are well on the way to that happening now. The only reason it hasn't already happened is because of the size and inertia of the overall problem.

In spite of all this, we are still here, and still have our lives to live. We really have no choice other than to live our lives as though we will continue and persevere, anything short of that is giving up, and that is not an option.

I have talked with so many folks who are disgusted, like you, Kavika, and I. They complain that things are getting worse. I am not sure. Some things are better and some are not as good as they once were.

Years ago, I went down to the courthouse and changed my voter registration to "does not state". No party affiliation here. Politics corrupts everyone, even those who were well meaning at one time. As soon as a fellow states he wants to be a leader or representative, he becomes beholding to those who help him with their campaign money. They helped him get elected and how he owes them something. That is not leadership or representation of the public.

Civilization is going to hell, they say. I think not. We are not civilized yet and we have a way to go before we can claim that we once were and are not now.

Kavika I have observed over the last few months that you are becoming more and more of a dedicated Centrist. I consider this a good thing and a wise choice. Harmony is still possible.

I agree with Atsidi and Dale 95, we are approaching a fork in our paths. The drums are pounding out a dark rhythm. Focus is the tool we must utilize the most to get us on the right path to move forward, especially if we want to do so and avoid a total collapse on the way.
