January 1958, the KKK were making a comeback and in Robeson county North Carolina the KKK started harassing the Lumbee Indians.

The county had a divided population of white, Indian and Blacks.

The Klan was routed and never again staged a demonstration in Robeson county.

The confrontation was world wide news and the Lumbee celebrate ''The Battle of Hayes Pond'' yearly.
