Many people have heard of the ''Indian Boarding Schools'', but very few are aware of the ''Indian Adoption Era''....From 1941 through 1976 as many as half of all Native Children were taken from their homes and given to non-Indian families. This was a devastating time for these children and their families. The U.S. Government in conjunction with various church groups committed this crime.
Today, in some states, the number of Native children in foster homes far exceeds the percent of their population of that state.
South Dakota and Minnesota are two of the worst offenders. The ICWA of 1978 sought to put a stop to the Native children being taken from the homes without reason. It was a start but there is NO penalty if the state does not comply.
I have personal knowledge of this, my cousin was taken when he was 5 years old in 1945. The reason, no father at home. He was in no danger, the village supported his mother and he was never hungry or without clothing.
The reason there was no father in the home was that he was fighting in the Pacific as a member of the U.S. Army..
The article will tell you of other ''kidnappings'' of Native children.
The need for the U.S. government to assimilate us was no more then a ruse to destroy the Indian people.
All my relations.
